Lejebolig.dk - Integration with the Facebook Platform

Background

Lejebolig.dk want to reach more potential customers in the Danish housing rental market via a Facebook web-application that solves the need for rented accommodation among Facebook users.

The challenge

The challenge is to create an application that fits well with Facebook Platform, including creating an application that lives up to Facebook's guiding principles. In addition, the application must integrate with Lejebolig.dk's development platform and modules. To solve the above challenges, we must acquire new competencies in Facebook's development platform and find out how it interacts with .NET.

 Project goals

• To acquire new competence within Facebook's development platform to be able to solve the task.
• To develop a Facebook application in ASP.NET that satisfies Lejebolig.dk's requirements.
• To ensure that the application fits into the Facebook platform, both on structural and design basis.
• To integrate the application with Lejebolig.dk's modules.

The solution

• We started with acquiring knowledge about the development of Facebook applications, Facebook's mark-up language FBML and Facebook's API.
• We applied a . NET implementation of Facebook's APIs, Facebook Developer Toolkit Version 2.0. This saved us a lot of time and speeded up the development process.
• We utilized Rolf Molich's principles for user-friendly web-design to incorporate user friendliness into our design.
• We used Facebook's layout to ensure that the application layout fits into Facebook's platform.
